Unlike other wind vanes, Windbird does not need to be oriented with respect to north. It includes an electronic compass.

However, it is absolutely necessary to calibrate Windbird's compass.

The earth's magnetic field varies at each location. This is why calibration must be carried out at each installation site, just before mounting Windbird on its mast.

If you were familiar with the Pioupiou device, forget all about it. The Windbird calibration procedure is different.

Hold the device in your hands. It must have finished starting up (LED off).

Be sure to be away from metal parts, smartphone, tools, keys, antennas...

Start the calibration

Keep the button pressed for a long time (~10s) until the led blinks very rapidly. The calibration starts...

First, we will calibrate the vertical positions

UP: Hold the Windbird upright, in it's normal position. Rotate it 3 times around the vertical shaft.

DOWN: Hold it upside down and rotate it 3 times.

Then, we will calibrate the horizontal positions

FRONT: Hold the Windbird lying in front of you, with the black plastic support against your belly button. The metal shaft should be horizontal and appear to extend from your belly.

You are at position Front. Rotate it 3 times.

RIGHT: Keep it against your belly. Walk a quarter turn around yourself, to be at position Right. Rotate it 3 times.

BACK: Walk a quarter turn around yourself, to be at position Back. Rotate it 3 times.

LEFT: Walk a quarter turn around yourself, to be at position Left. Rotate it 3 times.

If the LED is still on, repeat the process from the UP position.

Stop when the LED turns off. The calibration is now complete and the Windbird will reboot.
